    Turns out, with UPS, the cheapest thing to ship is 12×9x4 boxes, which is the size of the well-known Amazon.com box that you get everything from a single usb drive to several books in.

    It’s actually more expensive to send things in the appropriate smaller box (like we do) than in the standard 12×9x4, and by as much as $1.50. That really adds up when you do a few thousand orders a day, as I’m sure they do.

    Although this picture is a particularly extreme case, it’s unfortunately just an exaggeration of a common situation :(
