Great Green Job of the Week: Photovoltaic Systems Engineer, SolarOne Solutions

SolarOne® Solutions, based in the Boston Metrowest area, deploys Lighting and Harvester systems across the globe for a wide range of applications and customers that include major college campuses, government laboratories and municipalities.

Position Overview:

SolarOne is looking for an engineer with hands-on experience in the PV systems industry.  The candidate must have experience designing PV systems for both off and on-grid applications.  The candidate should be well versed in technical aspects of PV systems, including equipment selection, sizing, wind-loading, mounting, installation standards, etc.

The candidate must enjoy working in a dynamic, small-company environment and will be called upon to provide technical support for sales, production and product development activities.  Some travel will be required to support customer visits, technical support, trade shows and standards organization.

Responsibilities:

(may include but are not limited to)

1. Design and size power systems for stand-alone outdoor lighting projects of all sizes
2. Technical support for in-house sizing tools.
3. Monitor system performance.
4. Actively participate in new product development efforts.
5. Work collaboratively with sales on all technical aspects of quotes and proposals.
6. Support manufacturing with part evaluation and vendor selection
7. Create or review BOMs, line drawings and wiring diagrams based upon system designs
8. Diagnosis and repair problems on equipment returned under warranty and occasionally troubleshoot lights in the field.

Reports to: Director of Engineering

Qualifications:

* Minimum 5 years experience in an engineering role
* Must be fluent in English
* Must have basic knowledge of Autocad
* Must have basic Microsoft Office skills, such as Excel and Word
* Must be able to work easily in both Metric and English measurements

Preferences:

* Electrical power engineering background
* Experience with installation
