Great Green Job of the Week: Climate Coalition Coordinator at Southern Alliance for Clean Energy

A coalition of national and regional nonprofit organizations and philanthropic foundations working on climate change and energy issues throughout the Southeast seeks an experienced, highly-motivated individual to serve as Southeastern Climate Coalition Coordinator. The Coordinator will build, manage and strengthen a Southeastern network of non-profit partners engaged in federal climate policy initiatives.
Primary Responsibilities
Communicate with organizations throughout the Southeast to ensure they are up-to-date and informed about current climate policy issues;
Create and maintain a Southeast listserv and other web-based utilities to facilitate regional communication;
Liaise with member groups to ensure a coordinated approach to climate advocacy and outreach;
Compile and submit work plans and periodic activity reports;
Track federal climate legislation;
Work with consultants, funders and coalition steering committee.
Professional Requirements
BA or BS is required; a Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
Experience working collaboratively and diplomatically with diverse constituencies and individuals.
Experience facilitating meetings and building consensus.
Demonstrated success in leading and/or participating in strong coalitions or multi-stakeholder campaigns desired.
Works well independently, as part of a geographically dispersed team.
Working knowledge of climate policy is required; familiarity with climate science, and clean, renewable energy policy is desired.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills are required.
Strong writing skills.
Willingness to travel in region is required.
Issue advocacy experience is desired.
Salary / Benefits
This is a full-time position starting in January 2009 located in the mid-South: Atlanta is preferred but other locations convenient to travel will be considered. Compensation, based on experience and employment history, will be in the $50,000 to $70,000 range. The coalition offers a comprehensive benefit package and is an Equal Opportunity Employer. The candidate is expected to make a two-year commitment.
