As an employee of the Alliance to Save Energy, I would like to add that energy efficiency is also a good answer when it is unavoidable to run an appliance or their only option is to drive to work.  Energy efficiency means choosing ENERGY STAR labeled appliances that have to meet strict energy saving guidelines or driving smarter. 

One campaign that has just been launched is the Drive $marter Challenge where there are over 2 dozen driving and car maintenance tips to save people money.  To take a look at the challenge website that has already informed people to save over 4 billion gallons of gasoline, go to http://www.drivesmarterchallenge.org</description>
